Presidents Message September 2008

This is my first newsletter as President of the Victoria Knitters’ Guild. Together with the Executive and Coordinators we have come up with quite a few ideas which will make for an interesting year and we are sure you will learn lots of new techniques and tips.
I hope you’ve all had a good summer and have been able to work on new projects and perhaps finish some of those UFO’s.
I would like to thank the members of the guild who volunteered their time to man our our booth at FibreFest which was held at beautiful Saxe Point on Sunday June 22 - a glorious day – though could have done with a little less wind. A special thanks to Mary Kozicki who manned it all day. We had quite a few enquiries about knitting in general and gave out quite a number of membership forms and our newsletter so hopefully we will get some new members.
The well attended fashion show and dinner held on June 21 at the Med Grill featured some of our knitting collections which were enthusiastically appreciated. I would like to thank the guild members who modeled and presented their items for the event.
I am looking forward to participation of all members for future newsletters. Everyone has some new, different and interesting knitting news so let’s hear from you. Our newsletters are only as good as all of us make it.
We would like to have participation of all the members in as many topics as possible. We have, therefore, developed a Feedback Form which we will hand out at the first meeting of the month and would appreciate if you could complete it and drop it in the Feedback Form box (available at every meeting).
A big thank you to our members who volunteered to be on the executive of our guild. These are:
Marg MacDuff – Vice President Mary Kozicki - Secretary
Val Kolsun – Treasurer Anne Fast – Member at Large
Another big thank you to our members who volunteered to be coordinators of our guild. These are:
Elizabeth Henry – Membership Shelly Hilditch - Venues
Barb Beukema – E mails/web sites Joyce Scott - Education
Marilyn Guille – Newsletter
Coordinators reports are included in the following pages of this newsletter.
We are looking forward to our up and coming year with keen participation and many benefits, some of which are – the congenial company of other knitters; assistance with projects; encouragement in finishing those UFO’s that are stuck and forgotten in our cupboard; our workshops; retreats; and tips on knitting.
Looking forward to seeing you all and hearing lots of needles clicking every Wednesday morning.

Happy knitting.
Jeanne
